Finally…. feeling comfortable enough with my free motion quilting to do some zentangles

I started tangling because I found a write up about zentange® on a quilting website. I wanted to free motion quilt and loved the look of the zentangle patterns in thread and cloth. It has been over a year’s journey going back and forth between the quilting and tangling, but so worth it. Next weekend I am taking a class at a local quilt shop to learn more about free motion quilting and they are using zentangle as the focus. I can hardly wait.

I loved Mooka the moment I saw the tangle in a zentangle newsletter. Here is the tangle on a tile, a pieces of ZIA in clay, and now in free motion quilting.      What fun!

In this interesting TED talk, Sunni Brown speaks of the benefits of doodling, to help get through dense material, problem solving, and as a creative process. It helps with retention and with deep information processing. We could easily substitute Zentangle for doodling and know we are on a good road, and in the end we have an amazing mini piece of art to admire.

Sunni Brown: Doodlers unite video on TED.com

Sunni Brown is co-author of GameStorming: A Playbook for Rule-breakers, Innovators and Changemakers. She’s known for her large-scale live content visualizations, and she is also the leader of the Doodle Revolution – a growing effort to debunk the myth that doodling is a distraction. Using common sense, experience and neuroscience, Sunni is proving that to doodle is to ignite your whole mind. Look for her second book, The Doodle Revolution, in 2012.

Her consultancy, BrightSpot I.D., specializes in visual thinking and information design. She was trained in graphic facilitation at the Grove Consultants International, a San Francisco-based company that pioneered the use of large-scale visuals in business settings.
